What is a Fonda?
For Our Colombian People,
A "FONDA" is an stay or roadside establishment, where the muleteers (muleteers) made their stations on their long journeys from town to town with their muleteers.
It was simply... It was the dream place, it was the favorite place to arrive every time you traveled.
These places served to travelers and passers-by as shelters and food and grocery stores, they also served "liquor" especially... the nowadays famous (Aguardiente), in (LAS FONDAS) you could listen to "Guasca" music, popular music that told love stories or simply contained traditional lyrics.
FONDAS still exist today, but with the development of transportation and telecommunications, as well as the massive migration of farmers to the cities, they have been greatly reduced in number and extent.
In many cities of COLOMBIA, they have tried to reestablish the concept of "FONDA", but only as a repeat... and in an attempt to remember the tradition and the typical customs, LA FONDA, is a Bar with a typical "paisa" decoration where you can listen to good music, mostly "old music, carrilera music, spite music and popular music, also tangos and Mexican rancheras. But with mixtures of modern rhythms, such as Cumbias, Porros and vallenato from the Caribbean Coast.
They are in many cases and occasions the favorite places for friends and family to celebrate, eat, drink and have a good time. Nowadays, people from many cities and countries, people of all levels and social classes attend fondas.
The waiters and waitresses of a fonda wear typical dress accompanied by a good Sombrero and a good carriel, How nice it is heard when all the assistants of the FONDA sing in chorus a good song... and it is said "SALUD HPTA"
